Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Orange County, California Affiliate Merchandise

Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Orange County, California Affiliate breast cancer awareness merchandise is designed to educate women of all ages about the three steps to early detection which are Breast Self-Examination (BSE), Clinical Breast Exams and Mammography Exams. It also echoes the Komen Mission by encouraging women to become empowered about their own breast health.

The Komen Foundation recommends that women follow a positive breast health regimen that includes monthly breast self-examination beginning by the age of 20 and clinical breast examination by a trained health professional at least every three years starting at age 20 and annually after age 40. Starting at age 40, women should get a mammogram every year. Women under age 40 with a family history, other risk factors or reasons for concern should consult a trained medical professional about when to have a mammogram.

Your support of www.OCKomenMerchandise.com is a proactive way to reach women with the life-saving message of early detection and to help raise additional funds for breast cancer research and community outreach programs.

Remember, early detection is your best protection.

Where the Money Goes
The first Komen Orange County Race for the Cure ® was held on September 27, 1992. There were 3,800 participants. Over its 15 years the Race has raised more than $15.5 million in Orange County for the fight against breast cancer.

In 2006, the Komen Orange County Race for the Cure ® was the largest, most successful fund-raising event in the county, raising more than $2.8 million with nearly 30,000 registered participants and spectators. Of those funds, a minimum of 25% was dedicated to the Komen Award and Research Grant Program and, the remaining net income, 75% provided life-saving breast health education, screening, diagnosis and treatment services to people of all ages and backgrounds in Orange County.

Joining with other Affiliates around the world, Komen Orange County dedicates a minimum of 25% of our funds to support groundbreaking research. The strength of communities working together is why Susan G. Komen for the Cure is the nation's largest private funder of research dedicated solely to breast cancer.
